Great beer, food is sub-par..
As a person who both eats out a bit and cooks a lot, I can tell you when my food is microwaved or cooked fresh. If a place does a really careful job it might be harder to tell. But today at lunch, I ordered the swimming angel at the elk. The food was at my table in less than 2 minutes, literally. Now it is not even possible to cook one of those crappy 5 ounce breasts that they serve there that fast. On top of that is was luke warm and slightly rubbery, as if they purposely did not re-heat it all the way to protect it from being totally rubbery. I guess they think people who know food do not eat there, or they do not care, or they thought the pre-made FSA peanut sauce would be enough of a mask. Either learn how to cook or pull it off of your menu if you cannot do it well.
On a positive note, the ambiance is fun and the pub feel is strong.
Best Place to drink beer in Spokane!.
I love the Elk! Sitting in historic Brown's Addition, this place actually used to be a drug store at one time. It has a copper bar that is almost as well polished as its wood floors. Smoking is outside on the porch only, but on a good day it's the perfect place to people watch over a good cigar, one of the best meals you'll ever have in Spokane, and a pint of any number of regional microbrews that they have on tap. They always keep one ale in a cask, served at cellar temperature, and that's also always worth checking out. The crowd is incredibly diverse, polite, and friendly. Ask any of them what their favorite spot in Spokane is and they'll just smile... -Chuck
