Mateo is an awesome stylist!

Mateo cut my hair for almost four years while I lived in Spokane. He knows how to work with thick, curly hair which is a major plus in my book. My hair is not the easiest to work with!

He was always friendly and conversational and really took into account what was going on in my life - all while cutting my hair!

Plus, anytime I'm back in Spokane, I make sure to set up an appointment with him. A stylist you'll travel for? Yep! He's great!

Mateo is fantastic!

Mateo is by far the best stylist I have ever been to. He has done my hair for 5 years and I have never been unhappy. His personality, ability to know exactly what I want and his capabilities in styling make him irreplaceable. Every appointment that I have gone to with Mateo has been the best appointment. He can read my mind without me saying a word, his scalp and neck massage make me forget my worries and he is simply the best. You will never be disappointed with Mateo, make the appointment... you will appreciate not having to worry about your hair turning out "right" ever again.

Mateo and Department Z are simply the best

Mateo is hands down the best stylist in Spokane.

After wandering from salon to salon for years, unsatisfied with other stylists, I met Mateo. I have now been going to Mateo for 4 years, and I have never once been dissatisfied with his work. He has amazing stylistic ideas when I am looking to change my look, but I usually just tell him, "lets do the usual", and without explanation he knows what to do. Mateo is kind and attentive, and we are never short for conversation. Each appointment comes with the most delightful and relaxing head and shoulder message as well. Mateo does it right, and he makes sure you love your cut and color before you leave. Mateo definitely has the knowledge and expertise to suit anyones stylistic needs. Go to Mateo once and you will keep coming back!

Department Z is amazing too, a unique boutique salon located up the stairs from Zola's bar ( an amazing bar by the way). The salon is clean, modern, and has its own stylistic flare. The employees are talkative and extremely friendly. I have been to all of the salons in Spokane, and Dept. Z is my favorite.

Mateo does amazing hair!

I am always impressed by Mateo when I come in for a haircut starting by the way he seems to understand exactly what I'm looking to do with my hair even though I may not express it perfectly. He has innovative ideas to help give me the best hairstyle and always explains how I can achieve the same look in my every day life! Plus, there is a complementary neck and head massage for every client which just adds to the relaxed environment of Dept Z. He is very friendly and goes out of his way to make sure you like your cut/color before you leave the salon. If you let Mateo do your hair, you will not be disappointed!! :)

Mateo @ Department Z

I've been going to Mateo from Department Z for almost two years now and highly recommend making an appointment with him. I've been to a lot of hair dressers in Spokane and after my experience with him and the salon i refuse to go anywhere else.The environment of the salon is very comfortable, I'm always very satisfied with my cut and color, they have a great staff and they're well priced. GO! :)
